Futurismo and Circle Jerks are proud to present the bands first stand alone release in over 30 years! - CIRCLE JERKS Revenge Of Nervous Breakdown. Releasing on 7” EP, CD and CASSETTE, and featuring brand new original artwork by Raymond Pettibon.
Like a stepping through a portal to 1979, Circle Jerks legendary singer Keith Morris harnesses the attitude and ferocity he garnered as the iconic co-founder and original lead vocalist for Black Flag. The result is Revenge Of Nervous Breakdown, an EP of four brand new essential studio recordings performed by the Circle Jerks. These choice tracks, all pulled exclusively from the singers influential tenure in Black Flag, shaped the landscape of a pivotal era in California hardcore history. This release is a full circle moment, a poignant recognition of the past, whilst demonstrating just how potent these songs are, and how unwavering and crucial Keith Morris is to this day.
Circle Jerks emerged from the punk underbelly of LA’s South Bay in 1979. After serving in Black Flag during the recording of its essential Nervous Breakdown EP, Keith Morris joined forces with guitarist Greg Hetson (Redd Kross, Bad Religion) to form Circle Jerks, alongside original bassist Roger Rogerson and drummer Lucky Lehrer, with Zander Schloss (The Weirdos) as the bands bassist since the 80’s, and drummer Joey Castillo (Danzig, QOTSA) as their newest member.
Whilst lineup changes, and even the odd hiatus as Keith concentrated on his other musical tour de force OFF!, may have derailed some bands, Circle Jerks have remained unbreakable. Unlike much of the unapologetic hardcore that seeped
through the cracks of American suburbia over the years, the music of the Circle Jerks has always been thoughtfully steadfast, yet relentless and ferocious in nature, their influence transcending music into cultural permanence with appearances in classics like Decline of Western Civilization, and the cult masterpiece Repo Man.
Here on Revenge Of Nervous Breakdown you can feel the intensity of a band still at the pinnacle, as this release reignites two tracks from the original Nervous Breakdown EP, and two from Morris’s shelved Damaged LP sessions to bring you something that feels familiar, yet entirely contemporary at the same time. Recorded at Tim Armstrong’s (Rancid, Operation Ivy) The Boat studio, and produced and engineered by Raul (Riff) Cuellar, this release delivers a new unique energy to songs that have been ingrained in the consciousness of punk fans for decades. The excitement of hearing Circle Jerks perform once again in the studio makes you realise that whilst time may elapse, some things just get stronger.
The 7” EP version is available in a choice of limited colour vinyl options, and is also available on CD and a limited edition Cassette. The release is also topped off with incredible new artwork by Raymond Pettibon, famed artist and creator of all Black Flag’s original record sleeves, in an authentic touch that harnesses the overall sentiment of this incredible record. This is no rerun, Revenge Of Nervous Breakdown is proof positive just how vital the Circle Jerks still sound now, more than ever.
